janu and I went hunting for elderflowers today. over the fence where the tree has fallen on the wire, across - slowly - the bush to the stand of flowers. walking at slower than art-gallery pace. Janu helped put them in the bowl after I teased the flower heads down with a long stick. outside, back at the cabin, he helped pour the sugar and water into a big metal pot. helping grate the lemons, we sniffed the scent rising, intoxicating in the sun. all by himself he cut the lemons into chunks; mixed it all together. this, our second batch, is bottles of sticky elderflower cordial for xmas presents.
