we meet Kimmy, our midwife, the afternoon before Bo was born. She comes for a visit and checks all is well. She asks us 'are you prepared for an emergency birth?' and when we burst out laughing (denial at work), she insists on newspapers and towels in the bathroom, and instructs adrian about not letting the baby hit the floor (something about a bucket and a bin liner, too...) The towels and newspaper in the bathroom come in very handy that evening...
Here he is minutes after being born, with the wonderful Chantel.
Our beautiful doula Chantel arrived 5 minutes before he was born in the little bathroom, putting Adrian and I at ease. We had just called mum in to sleep in our bed while we went to hospital, and she'd brought over the dog in her basket. When I realised that Bo was just a few minutes away we called the ambulance, which arrived in time to help cut his cord after he'd had a good feed. All the while Janu slept on afew metres away. It was quick, but not scary like the first time. Blissful to be at home, and stay at home. The midwives came out each day to visit, and the sun shone, and the baby slept!
When Janu woke up in the morning, we called him over to find a truly wonderful surprise sleeping on my chest!
He had the longest cord ever - the midwives were amazed!
