alleppey

 the backwaters of kerala - famous for huge houseboats and tiny tributaries. we found a tiny guesthouse all but abandoned for the rainy season.

Janu loves to help paddle in this Venice of India. Houses all along the river with no road access. Thwack! women wash and smack the dirt from their washing all the way along the bank.  we explore channels, narrow lanes.

we stay put awhile.  watching hyacinths glide by. rippling currents, Janu throwing leaves in to watch their path.  we read, tell stories, wave at boats streaming past.
